Get Growing – iphone app

Submitted by on Mon 27 June, 2011 – 3:45 pmOne Comment

Get Growing is a fantastic new iphone app, which helps you calculate how much food you could be growing in your garden or on your balcony – and works out the amount of money and food miles that you could save! Developed by BTCV, use it as inspiration for getting out there and start growing some of your own fruit and veg! It’s not too late to plant some salad seeds for harvesting this year, or you could be enthused to take the time to plan and prepare your growing area for next year.

Growing your own food is a great way to help reduce your impact on the environment and combat climate change. It’s also fun and good for your health – you can give up that gym membership when you’re out in the garden growing your own food!

Already grow your own food? Download the app and work out how much money and carbon you’ve been saving by doing so.

Read more about the app on the GreenWise news website; alternatively, go ahead and download the Get Growing iphone app from the iTune app store now – it’s free! It can be used with an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. Don’t own any of these? Why not recommend it to a friend who does – get them to use their iPhone to reduce their environmental impact!

Downloaded… apparently if I have a plot of land that is 2m x 4m square, and grew Carrots, I could save £248.64 a year and 800 Food miles. Alternatively if use the same plot of land to grow broad beans I could save £682.80 and 4930 Food miles.
